Have you ever been writing a word, and looks like it's spelled wrong, but it isn't? I think it might be peculiar to English, since the spelling is so irregular.
Try living over here! In Vietnam we've got the romanized alphabet but I swear there is no way to distinguish the sounds can canh khan khanh so how am I to know how to know which one I'm spelling?

They should have let Bernhard shaw reform the English Alphabet.

Thank you, Yossarian Lives, for the link. I've known about the "ghoti" spelling of "fish" for a while, but never knew to whom to attribute it.
